Cambia Health Solutions has been a long-time supporter of Habitat for Humanity. They have participated in home sponsorship as well as several TeamBuilder group volunteer days—a tradition that has continued for years.
They are active and present at numerous Habitat events. Mark Ganz, Cambia’s President and CEO, is a proud host of Habitat for Humanity’s Annual Executive Build, where companies come together to build healthy, affordable homes.
The missions of Habitat for Humanity and Cambia Health Solutions are closely intertwined. The idea of a neighbor helping a neighbor is a prominent part of both companies’ origins. “In addition to helping the community, volunteering fosters an atmosphere of teamwork and appreciation for the resources around us” explains Alisa Bliss of Cambia.
Alisa is one of numerous Cambia employees who volunteers on our build sites. Alisa is also involved with Meals on Wheels and The Oregon Food Bank. She chooses to dedicate her time to these organizations because they “provide vital nonprofit programs and services.”
The most rewarding part of Alisa’s experiences with Habitat was meeting future homeowners. “It was incredible to see the pride in their eyes as they looked at their new home. I’d sign up again in a heartbeat!”
Bert Sorio, a Systems Analyst with Cambia, has volunteered with Habitat for the past three years. Bert understands “there is a shortage of affordable housing in the Portland/Vancouver metro area,” and says he is “proud to work for a company that looks at Habitat as a worthwhile and important program to support.”
Bert enjoys seeing the progress made each day on the build site. “I was impressed with how our Cambia associates came together to accomplish work projects like framing, fence building, painting, and landscaping at every skill level.” Bert also got to meet and work with future homeowners who were on site putting in their 500 hours of sweat equity. “I wish everyone could spend a day working with the homeowner volunteers,” he concludes.
For every Cambia volunteer like Alisa and Bert, there are 10 more just like them. In the past few years, there have been over 170 Cambia volunteers on our various build sites and they have contributed over 1,300 hours of greatly appreciated volunteer work.
