With our Home Dedication and BBQ not two weeks away, the seven homes in Phase 1 are nearly move-in ready.  All that remains are the finishing touches like installing blinds and trim before Habitat homebuyers become first-time homeowners. Each of their homes will be complete with new hardwood floors and carpet; Energy Star certified air sealing, weather barriers, HVAC systems, and windows; and brand new appliances donated by Whirlpool. These triplexes and duplexes will be the first half of the community to be completed with the remaining eight still in progress.
“We’re making real headway,” Nathan Lommasson, Assistant Construction Supervisor, said. “Remember, there will be a BBQ!”

Just breaking ground on our newest build site in North Portland last month, the construction of this 12-home community has rocketed off to a speedy start. We poured concrete for the foundation to complete the footing, walls, and slab of half the homes. The three-story, condominium design is a first for Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East, and is adjacent to longtime Habitat community, Rivergate, in the Portsmouth neighborhood.
“We have excellent neighbors,” Construction Supervisor Scott Wood said. “They’re all around excited about the project and happy that something’s getting done here.”
With Habitat homebuyers and Rivergate Community Church to the east and generous, longtime residents to the west, these permanently affordable homes will only amplify the sense of community already resonant here.
“I’m excited for this new challenge,” Mr. Wood said. “Everyone has been great to work with. It’s all coming along.
These two communities kick off our busiest construction year yet, with plans to break ground on two more communities later this year. Stay tuned for more updates!
