Pope Leo Village

An interfaith movement uniting people of all backgrounds to build homes, community, and hope at Twenty Fifth Terrace.

FAQ’s

I’m not Catholic or religious, can I still participate?
Absolutely. People of all faiths, spiritual traditions, and identities — including those who are not religious — are welcome. The heart of this effort is compassion, service, and building community together. If you’d like to contribute to Habitat’s mission outside of this campaign, Habitat for Humanity Portland Region strives to create volunteer opportunities for people from all backgrounds. Learn more about our Community Days.

I’ve never done construction, is that okay?
Yes! Habitat provides all the training, tools, and supervision you need on the build site. No prior experience is needed. All you need is a willingness to learn and a desire to help. We will also have opportunities at our ReStores: Habitat’s donation centers/home-improvements stores. Register to volunteer.

Where exactly does my money go?
Every dollar raised through the Pope Leo Village campaign goes directly to supporting Habitat for Humanity Portland Region’s Twenty Fifth Terrace development – a 17-home community in SW Portland. Your gift helps purchase building materials, support construction costs, and ultimately provide safe, stable homes for local families. To learn how your donation helps us build, see our annual reports page.

How old do I need to be to volunteer?
Volunteers must be 16 or older to serve on the construction site, and 14 or older to volunteer at Habitat ReStores. Youth groups, schools, and families can also get involved by fundraising, sponsoring volunteer hours, or helping spread the word in their community. Sign up to volunteer individually; if you are interested in volunteering as a group, please email volunteer@habitatportlandregion.org.

How long will the campaign run?
The Pope Leo Village campaign will be active until the completion of Twenty Fifth Terrace, estimated for 2027. Volunteer and donation opportunities begin in winter 2026 and continue until completion.

Which other cities & affiliates are participating in the Pope Leo Village?
Habitat affiliates across the country are participating in the Pope Leo Village. The growing list includes Boston, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Chicago, Des Moines, Detroit, Milwaukee, Nashville, Omaha, Philadelphia, Portland, Saint Louis, San Antonio & Guadalupe Valley, Tampa, Wake County, and Wichita.
