On a cold January afternoon, families, volunteers, and community members joined together to officially dedicate the first phase of Glisan Gardens, Habitat’s 25-home build in Gresham’s Rockwood neigborhood.
In a slightly unconventional format, families received symbolic paintbrushes in lieu of actual house keys… because they had already moved in! Construction staff diligently worked through the winter to make sure the homes were completed in time for families to move in and enjoy the holidays in their new homes.
Habitat also invited home sponsors and representatives, including Gresham City Council President Jerry Hinton, to speak to the community. The City of Gresham helped Habitat purchase the lot of land the homes were built on, along with Housing and Urban Development HOME and SHOP program funds.
Habitat has committed to the Rockwood neighborhood, building new homes and repairing existing ones, ensuring low-income and longtime residents can maintain their place in their community, stabilizing classrooms and making sure families have the choice to stay where they have lived for decades.
The second and final phase of Glisan Gardens is scheduled to be completed by the winter of 2016.
