(Portland, Ore.)— Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East is busy preparing for a special celebration. On July 12, Habitat will hand over the keys to three families—20 people—as they move into their new, energy-efficient/Earth Advantage Certified Habitat homes. The three homes are located at Helensview, a 21-home community located in the Cully neighborhood of Portland. The completion of these three homes would not be possible without the support of Sunset Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and the Beadnell Family.
Helensview will be home to 21 families, including nearly 70 children. Each family dedicates 300 sweat equity hours as they build their homes alongside volunteers and later purchase the homes with an affordable mortgage. Habitat is the only organization in the Portland Metro area that consistently offers affordable homeownership opportunities to families making as little as $30,000 (for a family of four).
Sayyu and her family will be receiving the keys to their new home. After living in an overcrowded apartment, her husband, Jae, shared, “I feel like I’m now in heaven. When I think of my future home, I picture my family light hearted, house full of smiles on everyone’s face.”
