Over $10,000 in mobility stolen from Habitat’s build site on NE 57th and Killingsworth
(Portland, Ore.)— The Portland Police Department is responding to an auto theft at Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East’s Cully community, leaving the site without a truck used daily to haul lumber and other materials needed to build homes for local families. The theft was discovered last Monday morning when construction staff arrived to the site located on NE 57th and Killingsworth in Portland, Oregon. Upon entering the site, they noticed the organization’s pickup truck was missing.
“It’s a burden on our whole organization,” said Josh Philippi, Vice President of Construction at Habitat. “We rely on donations to purchase materials for building homes for families and individuals seeking a decent place to call home. Now we have to raise funds to replace the truck needed to transport supplies to the site.”
The Cully community will become home to 15 families working to establish themselves through homeownership. It is Habitat’s most recent build in Northeast Portland and part of their effort to triple the number of people served annually.
