(Portland, Ore.)— It’s not your typical mother’s day brunch for Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East’s Women Build volunteers. This weekend they are coming together locally to build homes at Habitat’s Cully Place build site in honor of Mother’s Day. Exterior siding, interior walls and floors, retaining walls and lots of heavy lifting are in store for the day.
“We are honored to build alongside the amazing mothers, aunts, and grandmothers who are also Habitat Homebuyers,” stated Lauren Johnson, Habitat’s Senior Donor Engagement Officer. “Soon their families will purchase their homes with an affordable mortgage. What better way to celebrate the empowerment of women than on Mother’s Day!”
Habitat is proud to be building 15 affordable homes in Portland’s vibrant and diverse Cully neighborhood. Habitat’s efforts in the Cully neighborhood will provide an opportunity for residents most likely to be displaced by gentrification to stay in their neighborhood.
