Construction update: Summer build season in full swing!

There’s no slowing down at Habitat Portland Region. Every day brings visible progress and powerful moments.
From the sound of hammers, to the joy of handing over keys, this is what building community looks like.

Myrtlewood Way – Gresham

This 20-home community in the Rockwood neighborhood is making great strides, thanks to the efforts of volunteers, trade partners, and Habitat staff.

In June, Myrtlewood Way hosted our LGBTQ+ Pride Build and other groups. They created a volunteer break area complete with shelter from the sun (and rain!) as well as benches. Site superintendent Travis Schultz says everybody is excited to be building on the east side.

Trades have framed three buildings since the end of April. Here’s what’s being worked on this month:

  • Roofing is underway for Buildings A and F; siding could start in a few weeks
  • Trusses and weather-resistant barrier coming soon for Building G
  • Final stages of concrete for Buildings B and E
  • Volunteers framing the first floor along with joists for Building J (the first of three volunteer-framed buildings)

King City Commons – King City

Four families have moved into their new homes!! In the coming weeks, the remaining units will have third-party inspections and appraisals.

Crews recently finished the natural play area, which has a sand table and two water features. Check it out here.

Our construction staff expects all work to be complete by the end of July.

West Lake Grove – Lake Oswego

We’re starting to welcome homebuyers to this 23-home community. They worked alongside volunteers to finish framing Building 6. Its trusses are expected to fly in mid-July.

A Team Builder group from The Greenbrier Companies helped us raise a 72-foot wall for Building 5. It’s the longest one raised by volunteers at this site! Watch here.

Rough plumbing, electrical and HVAC is complete in Building 1, the first framed by volunteers. Air sealing and insulation are set to begin this month.

Century Commons – Hillsboro

In June we hosted a workshop for homebuyers to learn preventative maintenance. Together, they looked at everything from the water heater in the garage to the ERV panel in the ceiling.

For many first-time homeowners, going from a rental to their own property is an exciting milestone that brings new responsibilities. This class helped share knowledge and resources to care for their homes for years to come.

Twenty Fifth Terrace – SW Portland

Our trade partners are prepping the base of foundations for these 17 homes in the Markham neighborhood. Forms for the footings should go up in a few weeks.

We hope to host a tour of the site for Core volunteers in early August!
