About Gerardo Lopez Silva, Habitat Homebuyer:
Gerardo, Jocabeth and their son Cristian are currently living in a subsidized rental apartment in the Cully neighborhood. Gerardo is a Senior Maintenance Technician with REACH CDC, an affordable housing and supportive services provider. Gerardo and Jocabeth dream of the stability that homeownership can provide for their family. They are excited to purchase an affordable home at Cully Place, allowing them to remain in their neighborhood.
“Being able to have an affordable home mortgage will allow us to have some more financial freedom,” shared Gerardo. On remaining in the Cully community, he later added, “Also staying in touch with our current friends, family and church community.”
Affordable homeownership impacts the entire spectrum of housing. When Gerardo and Jocabeth purchase their home through Habitat for Humanity, this will also free up their subsidized rental for another Portland-area family in need of an affordable place to live.
