News Release: Habitat for Humanity Launches Playhouse Volunteer Experience for Corporate Team Building

Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East mobilizes local, corporate volunteer groups in new team-building experience

(July 1, 2019)—Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East has launched a new corporate volunteer program called Playhouse Experience—a unique team-building opportunity. After a successful soft launch of the program with groups like Daimler Trucks North America, Habitat for Humanity is moving full-force with the official launch of the Playhouse Experience, mobilizing local corporate volunteer groups to build playhouses for children from partner nonprofit organizations.
“These kind gestures are really what mean so much to me and my family! You are all making a big impact on our hearts,” stated Brittany, mother of three from The Dougy Center for Grieving Children and Families, one of the beneficiaries of the Playhouse Experience.
Having a safe place to play is important for every child. That’s why the Playhouse Experience invites teams of volunteers to assemble and decorate children’s playhouses, which are then donated to families through partner organizations like The Dougy Center and United Cerebral Palsy of Oregon & SW Washington. Volunteers can show off their creativity by decorating each playhouse to fit the fun theme chosen by the recipient family, and work together on tasks such as shingling the roof or attaching the playhouse trim. Playhouse Experience donations not only give children a space to call their own, the funds raised from this program directly support building more affordable homes in the Portland Metro area through Habitat for Humanity.
In June, Daimler Trucks North America hosted a Playhouse Experience on their Swan Island campus for their employees to build three playhouses for three families from United Cerebral Palsy of Oregon & SW Washington.
“Daimler has been invested in the Portland community for years and up to the highest levels of the organization, we feel it is important to partner with organizations like Habitat for Humanity to benefit society as a whole,” said Bob Coats, Product Validation Manager at Daimler Trucks North America. “We value the community of Portland and feel it is our social responsibility to make Portland a better place for all who live here.”
Habitat for Humanity encourages corporate groups to reserve their Playhouse Experience today—team volunteer spots are available for the 2019-2020 season. More information about the Playhouse Experience can be found at https://habitatportlandmetro.org/businesses/#playhouse
