Home Repair

The Home Repair Program helps homeowners with low incomes restore and maintain their homes.

Our home repair program has reached capacity and applications are now closed. Please check back in spring 2025 for updates.

Habitat for Humanity will partner with homeowners to alleviate health and safety issues and complete needed home improvement projects. If you’re a homeowner living on a low income in the city of Portland, or Multnomah or Washington counties, you may qualify for services through our Home Repair Program. We help people live and thrive in their homes, safely and affordably.

Habitat for Humanity Portland Region currently offers various home repair services depending on the location of your home.  Repairs may include plumbing, electrical, roofing, HVAC/mechanical, siding, water intrusion, ADA ramps, Fall prevention, wheelchair-friendly flooring, widening doorways for accessibility and other modifications for disabilities.

The following criteria are considered in the selection process:

  • Home is owner-occupied and the primary residence of the owner
  • Homeowner is current on mortgage payments and property taxes
  • Homeowner has $20,000 of equity in home
  • Homeowner’s insurance is current or attainable
  • Maximum household income is 80% or less of the median family income for the Portland area (Income total is determined by the combined gross income of all family members)

  • Homeowners seeking a 0% interest Habitat loan must demonstrate an ability to repay
Project costs may not exceed $20,000. For projects under $5,000 Habitat offers 0% interest discounted micro loans. For projects over $5,000 Habitat offers 0% interest deferred loans that are secured by the property. There must be sufficient equity in the home to cover any potential repair costs. Deferred loans will be due upon sale or transfer of ownership of the property or refinancing of an existing mortgage.
  • Repairs fall within the program guidelines
The home must need critical exterior and/or interior work to address health and safety issues. Habitat will conduct a home visit for homeowners who meet the previous criteria to assess the repair needs and to create and estimate of the approximate cost of repairs.
  • Willingness to partner with Habitat
Depending on the size of the project, homeowners accepted into the program are required to participate in the repair or maintenance of the home totaling 8 to 20 hours. Accommodations will be made for work schedules and the abilities of the homeowner.

We service residents living in these zip codes:
