Lowe’s Helps Kick Off Helensview Build

On November 14, over 20 local Lowe’s employees, aptly dubbed Lowe’s Heroes, came out to volunteer on Habitat’s Helensview site in northeast Portland’s Cully neighborhood. These volunteers spent the day working on the foundations for the first phase of this 21-home site. This special volunteer day was part of Lowe’s commitment to Habitat’s Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative, which also included a $250,000 grant to help complete Habitat work in Cully.
“We are grateful to Lowe’s for their generous support,” said Steve Messinetti, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East. “Because of partners like Lowe’s, we are able to help families obtain affordable housing and improve conditions in neighborhoods.”
Lowe’s awarded $1.2 million in grants to 14 Habitat affiliates across the country to support more than 300 community projects as part of Habitat’s Neighborhood Revitalization program, an effort to serve more families through community development partnerships. A national partner since 2003, Lowe’s has committed more than $63 million to Habitat for Humanity and helped more than 4,000 families improve their living conditions.
“Habitat’s Neighborhood Revitalization program has made a lasting impact in communities across the country,” said Joan Higginbotham, Lowe’s director of community relations. “Lowe’s is proud to support Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East to make a difference in the Portland community.”
