About Habitat’s Home Repair Program
Habitat for Humanity partners with homeowners to complete critical home repairs that improve health, safety, and accessibility.
If you own your home and live on a low income in Multnomah County or Washington County, you may qualify for our program.
Our goal is simple: to help people stay safely and comfortably in their homes for years to come.
What repairs can Habitat do?
Eligible repairs focus on safety, accessibility, and preventing further damage.
Examples include:
- Roof replacement and repair
- Plumbing and electrical
- Heating/cooling (HVAC) systems
- ADA ramps and fall prevention improvements
- Wheelchair accessible flooring
- Window replacement and repair
- Water intrusion mitigation and moisture repair
- Other health and safety related improvements
How Habitat’s Home Repair program works
Habitat manages the entire repair project from start to finish.
We hire and work directly with licensed contractors. Skilled Habitat volunteers are also utilized.
Homeowners do not receive cash; Habitat pays our contractors directly.
To keep repairs affordable for homeowners, Habitat offers 0% interest loans.
Understanding the Home Repair Loan
The loan available to qualified homeowners will be dependent on:
- The size and type of repair
- Available program funding
- Household income and eligibility

- Not everyone qualifies for all available loan options
- The goal is to help people fix critical issues without financial hardship

Repayable Microloan
(Small Monthly Payments)
For smaller repair projects
- 0% interest
- Flexible terms (12-48 months)
- Affordable monthly payments
- Payment amount is based on income
Examples:
- $4,500 loan at 80% AMI → approx. $28/month for 48 months
- $4,500 loan at 50% AMI → approx. $21/month for 48 months
Deferred, Secured Loan
(No Monthly Payments)
For larger or more complex repairs
- 0% interest
- Secured by a lien on the home
- No monthly payments required
- Loan is forgiven after 15 years if homeowner continues living in the home
